With the countdown to the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games well and truly in the final stages, our Sport Weeks provide you with the perfect guide to each of the competitions being contested in France.

To round off this first week, here are the key Para athletes to keep an eye on in Para archery this summer.

 Oznur Cure (Turkiye)

@World Archery

A silver medallist from the Mixed Team Compound Open competition at Tokyo 2020, Cure will arrive in Paris as one of the favourites for gold after winning the 2023 world individual title to add to her women’s doubles title in 2022.

Christopher Davis (Australia)

@World Archery

After being inspired to take up Para archery by iconic “Armless Archer“ Matt Stutzman, Davis has followed in his idol’s footsteps. Just one year after he started competing at senior international level, he won gold at the 2023 World Championships - Australia’s first-ever Para archery world title - as he aims to top the podium at his first Paralympic Games.

 Sheetal Devi (India)

@World Archery

The rising star of the women’s compound open category, the 17-year-old made history in her debut season as the first female armless archer to win a Worlds medal when she took silver at the 2023 edition. She added double Asian Para Games gold later that year to seal the world number one ranking ahead of Paris.

Despite being just 29 years old, the Finnish archer is already a veteran of the sport, having won gold in the men’s compound open on his Paralympic debut at London 2012, more than a decade ago. He’s yet to repeat that medal success at subsequent Games, but heads to his fourth Paralympics in great form, having won both the European Qualification tournament and European Para Championships bronze in 2023.

The two-time Paralympian currently holds a world record in the women’s compound open category and is the reigning world bronze medallist. She heads to Paris in search of her first Paralympic medal as a double Parapan American champion and the number two-ranked archer in the world.

The reigning Paralympic champion in the men’s individual recurve open originally started out his Para sport career as an alpine skier before switching from winter to summer pursuits. And it has proved to be the right decision, as he added the world title to his Paralympic gold in 2023 and heads to Paris as the world number one.

 Milena Olszewska (Poland)

@World Archery

Paris 2024 will be the fourth Paralympic Games for the Polish veteran, who already has two Paralympic bronze medals to her name. She has a full set of Worlds medals, including gold in 2018, and heads to France ranked number two in the women’s recurve open category after winning silver at the 2023 Worlds.

The Slovakian heads to his third Games still in search of his first Paralympic medal after narrowly finishing fourth at Tokyo 2020. The former world number one in the men’s compound open category is a two-time world Team bronze medallist and double European champion.

The former world number one and 2015 world champion holds two world records and a Paralympic record in the women’s compound open. Most recently, she secured silver in the compound mixed competition at the European Para Championships to book a place in Paris and her third Games.

The 2022 world silver medallist will be hoping to make home advantage count at his second Paralympics. The recurve open world number two bounced back from missing the podium at the 2023 Worlds to take silver at the European Para Championships last August.
