His wife, Kay Reyna, is the founder and president of Operation Homeland Honor. The organisation was founded to provide an athletic outlet for state troopers, police officers, firefighters, emergency personnel and military service members who have sustained severe injuries in the line of duty. She first took Humberto swimming for therapeutic reasons, and since then sport has provided him with a new sense of direction. "It motivates me to live to the next day. It has given me a new life."
