He was taught how to swim at age seven by his older brother, and took up the sport seriously in 2003 in Sarawak, Malaysia.
Why this sport?
He was inspired to get involved in the sport seriously by Malaysian swimmer Daniel Bego.

He trains at the Likas Sports Complex Aquatic Centre in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia.

RETIREMENT THOUGHTS
He began considering retirement in 2017, but committed to competing at the 2020 Paralympic Games in Tokyo after his wife died in a car accident in November 2018. "I decided to come back for my son. He's the main reason. My son is showing a lot of interest and potential in swimming. I want to spend more time bonding with him after I retire and then I'll teach him everything I know about swimming." OTHER ACTIVITIES
When he is not training he works on his jackfruit farm in his hometown of Limbang in Malaysia. His farm is the product of a project organised by the Limbang government.
