Impairment
In 2011 he was involved in a dirt bike accident in which he dislocated his ankle. He also broke his fibula and tibia in 11 places. His body rejected the plates and screws that were inserted, which left Stein with the decision to have his ankle fused or amputate the limb. In November 2013 his leg was removed below the knee.
