Impairment
At age 16 he was involved in a motorbike accident that resulted in paralysis to the upper right side of his body. He did not do any sport again until age 23, when he began running while attending the Irene Rolo Foundation school for people with an impairment. (sportzone.pt, 01 Jan 2011)
