He began swimming in 2000 in Daugavpils, Latvia.
Why this sport?
He swam before his diagnosis, and when he was diagnosed with myopathy at age 17, doctors recommended he limit his training. He then got to know coach Haralds Luckovskis, who encouraged him to take part in a Para swimming event in Riga, Latvia, in 2016.
