At age two she was diagnosed with focal scleroderma, a condition rarely found in children, which attacks bone joints. As a result, part of her left leg was amputated at age seven. "It affected the left side of my face, and my left leg was a lot smaller and bent up at a 90 degree angle." (teamusa.org, 26 Oct 2013; coe-uga.edu, 01 Nov 2011; youtube.com, 13 Feb 2010)
