In 2016 she was named Female Athlete of the Year in Deinze, Belgium. (parantee.be, 22 Feb 2017)
Impairment
She was diagnosed with a tumour in her left knee at age 14. Doctors removed her kneecap and replaced it, but her body rejected the prosthesis. In 2008 she was given the option of trying a second prosthesis or having her leg amputated. "I chose the amputation. It was a difficult decision but ultimately the best choice."
