He took up wheelchair racing in 2004. He began para-cross country skiing in 2005.

He started skiing as a form of cross training but found his body responded better to skiing than any other sport.

He was involved in a cycling accident while training for a triathlon in 2003. He spent six months in rehabilitation. "After my accident I was paralysed from the waist down for two-and-a-half years.
