He took up the sport in 2005 during a school meet in Perlis, Malaysia.

Athletics was a compulsory activity at his school. In 2004 he was spotted by coach Affizam Amdan during a talent search organised by the Malaysian Youth and Sports Ministry in Perils, Malaysia.

Awards and honours
In 2018 he was named Best Asian Male Para Athlete by the Asian Paralympic Committee [APC]. He was the first Malaysian athlete to received the award. (bernama.com, 04 Jan 2019)

He was voted Paralympic Athlete of the Year at the 2015 Malaysian National Sports Awards. He also received the 2015 Kesatria Terbilang Award from the United Malays National Organisation [UMNO], and a special excellence award from the Perlis Social Welfare Department in recognition of the gold medal he won at the 2015 World Championships in Doha, Qatar.
