African NPCs try to maintain momentum
The IPC led a workshop in South Africa with 10 National Paralympic Committees to try to help them maintain the momentum they gained from London 2012. 04 Dec 2012
Twenty-seven people participated in the IPC's workshop in Johannesburg, South Africa to try to maintain the momentum from the London 2012 Paralympic Games.
Rwanda, Ethiopia, Kenya, Zimbabwe and South Africa had the largest representation from their NPCs at the workshop, where NPCs actively participated.
Ten National Paralympic Committees and Ghana’s Right to Dream programme gathered in Johannesburg, South Africa from 29 November – 1 December for the IPC’s “Maintain the Momentum” workshop.
The three-day event, co-organised by NPC South Africa and conducted by IPC Academy, aimed to ensure NPCs benefit from the impulse of the London 2012 Paralympic Games and to further develop the Paralympic Movement in their countries to ensure good representation at the Rio 2016 Games.
Rwanda, Ethiopia, Kenya, Zimbabwe and South Africa had the largest representation from their NPCs at the workshop, where NPCs actively participated.
Government representatives were in attendance from Rwanda, Uganda, Botswana and Tanzania, with the representatives from the latter two nations wanting to help sort out conflicts and further develop their NPCs.
The workshop was co-financed by the Norwegian Olympic and Paralympic Committee (NIF) and the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC).
Following the workshop, the IPC’s Agitos Foundation will now accompany the NPCs in the implementation of their pathways to Rio.
