Alpine Skiers Wrap Up Competition in Kuehtai with IPC Giant Slalom Race

While the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Alpine Skiing European Cup officially ended Friday (16 December), racers continued to hit the slopes in Kuehtai, Austria, the next two days as a part of the IPCAS Giant Slalom races.

Slovakia’s three-time Paralympic champion Henrieta Farkasova and Austria’s Claudia Loesch were the only two competitors to win both of their races.

Farkasova, who won three golds and a silver at Vancouver 2010, claimed the top spot on the first day of the women’s Visually Impaired Giant Slalom with a time of 1:28.81 and won the title on the second day after bettering her time with a mark of 1:21.30.

Loesch, who won two golds, a silver and a bronze at Vancouver 2010, performed much better on the second day as well with a time of 1:23.64 in the women’s Sitting Giant Slalom, though her time of 1:35.42 on the first day was still good enough for first.

Slovakia’s Petra Smarzova and Germany’s Andrea Rothfuss each won one day of competition in the Standing Giant Slalom.

On the men’s side, Austria’s Matthias Lanzinger and Markus Salcher each one won day of the Standing Giant Slalom event, while USA’s Tyler Walker and Japan’s Taiki Morii each took a piece of the title in the Sitting Giant Slalom.

Slovakia’s Radomir Dudas won the first day of the Visually Impaired Giant Slalom before his teammate Jakub Krako took over the top spot on the second day.
