'Athlete First: A History of the Paralympic Movement' Now Available

On the occasion of the annual International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Reception, Gudrun Doll-Tepper, the President of the International Council of Sport Science and Physical Education (ICSSPE), presented IPC President Sir Philip Craven with a copy of “Athlete First: A History of the Paralympic Movement”. 08 Feb 2008 By IPC

This book was initiated by ICSSPE and produced with the assistance of the IPC and the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Authored by sports historian Steve Bailey, the unique book examines the history of sport for persons with a disability in the context of the Paralympic Movement.

“The history of the Paralympic Movement represents a unique journey based on the vision and ideas in a changing world”, stated Sir Philip.

ICSSPE President Gudrun Doll-Tepper added: “In the year of the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games, not only do we get an opportunity to enjoy today’s Games and witness future champions, but also a chance to learn about and celebrate the rich historic past which should never be forgotten.”
