Brazil Athletes Top Parapan American Youth Games

The second Parapan American Youth Games have officially finished in Bogota, Colombia, after an exciting five days of competition from 18-22 October.

After battling for 651 medals, athletes from Brazil put the country on top of the rankings, winning a total of 80 gold medals. Following Brazil in the gold medal tally were Mexico with 51, Argentina with 48, Colombia with 34, Venezuela with 25, and USA with 24. A total of 13 countries participated in the big event in nine sports, including Athletics, Football 7-a-Side, Goalball, Judo, Powerlifting, Swimming, Table Tennis, Wheelchair Basketball and Wheelchair Tennis.

Ranging in age from 13-21, a total of 508 athletes from all around the Americas region had been training extensively for this event in the hopes of better preparing themselves for the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

The Closing Ceremony for the big event took place on 22 October, which was an extensive and colourful celebration of the strong performances and hard work that each of the athletes demonstrated.
