Brazil showcases Toronto 2015 outfits at Sao Paulo Fashion Week

“The look is great; it represents what Brazil and Brazilians really are.”

The outfits to be worn by Brazilian athletes at the Toronto 2015 Parapan American Games Opening and Closing Ceremonies in 7-15 August were displayed on Thursday (16 April), when five Paralympic athletes modelled the full look in the Sao Paulo Fashion Week – the biggest fashion event in Latin America.

Swimmers Daniel Dias, Clodoaldo Silva, Veronica Almeida and Talisson Glock, alongside table tennis player Bruna Alexandre, were joined by five Brazilian Olympic athletes presenting the outfits that will also be paraded at the Pan Am Games.

Designed by fashion stylists Carolina Gold and Pitty Taliani from Amapo, the clothes follow a concept known as “Tropical elegance” and are meant to represent the Brazilian national flag in different shapes. The stylists won a contest promoted by the Brazilian Paralympic Committee (CPB) and the Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB) for the ceremonies at both the Pan Am Games (10-26 July) and Parapan Am Games.

“It was a special moment for us, and there couldn’t be a better place to launch the outfits for the Parapan Am Games other than the Sao Paulo Fashion Week. The look is beautiful, and I’d like to thank the Amapo stylists for that. The outfits reflect the Brazilian way and joy. It gives me goosebumps just to see them, since it feels closer to Toronto 2015 and also to Rio 2016,” CPB president and IPC vice president Andrew Parsons said.

Five-time Paralympic gold medal swimmer Clodoaldo Silva also praised the look but joked that he felt more comfortable with other pieces of clothes.

“The look is great; it represents what Brazil and Brazilians really are. But I still prefer my swimsuits. So people should not worry, I will not leave the swimming pools for the fashion events,” Clodoaldo said.

The Toronto 2015 Parapan American Games will feature around 1,600 athletes from 28 countries will compete in 15 sports. Tickets are now on sale here.
