Croatia Takes Gold in IBSA 9-pin Bowling Champs

Croatia has won gold in the Men’s team event at the second IBSA World Championship in 9-pin Bowling for the blind and visually impaired in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzogovina.

The Croatian Men’s team destroyed 3,946 pins to take gold with team member Mirko Štajdohar downing 725 pins. Štajdohar will compete today to qualify for tomorrow's Men's individual finals. The silver medal in the group event went to Germany with 3,906 pins, and bronze to Poland with 3,868 pins.

Taking part in the event are more than 100 bowlers from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia and Slovenia.

The Women’s and Men’s individual event finals take place on Tuesday 31 May and Wednesday 1 June respectively.

Champions Elena Negrilescu (B1) and Tiberiu Oreian (B2) from Romania, Croatia’s Evica Šerfez (B2) and Slovakia’s Marija Fras (B3) and Karel Paril from the Czech Republic (B3) are there to defend their titles from the last World Championships, which were held in 2007 in Slovakia.
