Cultural Programme Around Alpine Skiing World Cup in La Molina
For the occasion of the IPC Alpine Skiing World Cup in La Molina, Spain, a cultural programme was launched by the city of La Molina in co-operation with the Catalan Federation of Sport for the Physical Disabled and La Caixa as well as with the help of the City Hall of Puigcerda. The cultural programme started with a Paralympic School Day on 4 December 2008 and now continued with a cycle of lectures held on 3 January 2009 in La Molina. 06 Jan 2009
The first lecture had the title "Normalization of the Adapted Sport". More than 50 interested persons and numerous media representative attended the presentations, which took place in the Centre of Adapted Sport in La Molina. The presentations were held by Dr. Josep Barrachina and Sylvana Mestre, Chairperson of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Alpine Skiing Technical Committee.
Dr. Barrachina analyzed in his presentation the different injuries that can be sufferered by athletes with a disability when practicing their sports. Ms. Mestre highlighted the importance of the normalization of adapted sport in today's society and the importance to practice sport independently of the ability of the persons.
Mariona Masdemont, responsible for the Centre of Adapted Sport of La Molina, explained the philosophy of this initiative that is to allow people with a disability to practice winter and summer sports in a natural way and with perfect accessibility.
The cycle of lectures will continue on Friday, 9 January 2009 in La Molina, with the following presentations:
- "Disability, Leisure and Family Environment”, held by Lucia Zumarraga, neuropsychologist, and Anna Gelabert, psychologist of the Guttmann Institute.
- "The Sport Adapted to the School", held by David Huguet, Once Catalunya.
The last presentation will be held on Monday, 12 January 2009 by Luis Leardy, Press Officer of the Spanish Paralympic Committee with the title "Adapted Sport and the Media".
