Daviet eyes individual gold at Nordic World Championships

“My goal is to be world champion in the biathlon and to keep our world title in the relay.”

France’s Benjamin Daviet is undoubtedly one of the front runners for medals ahead of the World Para Nordic Skiing Championships taking place in Finsterau, Germany, from Friday (10 February).

All races will be livestreamed alongside live results at Finsterau2017.com.

The 27-year-old currently stands top of the World Cup rankings in the men’s biathlon standing and will look to cement his status as one of the best skiers on the circuit with further success at the Worlds.

With five medals from the last edition at Cable 2015, including relay gold with teammates Anthony Chalencon and guide Lucas Dupperex and Thomas Clarion, Daviet shared his ambitions for the World Championships and looked back on his season so far.

“I’m really happy with my start to the season,” Daviet said. “My best performance so far was at the World Cup in Ukraine with three victories in the biathlon. I showed good form on the skis and produced some perfect shots – and that made the difference when it came to the result.”

He is taking nothing for granted and knows there is always room for improvement.

“We always try and improve, whether it is on the skis or in the shooting.”

Daviet is looking for his first individual world title at Finsterau and feels his strong start to the season will help him achieve his goals.

“The World Cups have helped me see where I am at and reflects all of the work we have done in preparation for the season. It’s also helped me to see which areas I need to work on more.

“My goal is to be world champion in the biathlon and to keep our world title in the relay.”

Following Finsterau 2017, Daviet will also travel to PyeongChang, South Korea for the Test Event for the 2018 Paralympic Winter Games. His aims for that event are simple, even if he does enter as a world champion as he hopes.

“My target for the PyeongChang Test Event is to score points for the overall World Cup rankings and also to take in the hangouts for the 2018 Paralympic Games.”

The Finsterau 2017 World Para Nordic Skiing Championships will gather 135 of the world’s best biathletes and cross-country skiers from 25 countries in Finsterau between 10-19 February. They will be followed by the PyeongChang 2018 Test Event from 10-15 March.
