Downhill and Team Competition End World Champs

After two days of training, the Downhill event of the 2009 IPC Alpine Skiing World Championships in High 1 Resort, Korea, took place on 28 February.

The following athletes showed strong performances and won medals:

Women's Visually Impaired Category:

1 - Henrieta Farkasova (SVK) with guide Natalia Subrtova

2 - Viviane Forest (CAN) with guide Lindsay Debou

3 - Anna Kuliskova (CZE) with guide Michaela Hubacova

Women's Sitting Category:

1 - Kimberly Joines (CAN)

2 - Kuniko Obinata (JPN)

3 - Tatsuko Aoki (JPN)

Women's Standing Category:

1 - Lauren Woolstencroft (CAN)

2 - Melania Corradini (ITA)

3 - Andrea Rothfuss (GER)

Men's Visually Impaired Category:

1 - Gerd Gradwohl (GER) with guide Karl-Heinz Vachenauer

2 - Jon Santacana (ESP) with guide Miguel Galindo

2 - Christopher Williamson (CAN) with guide Nicholas Brush

Men's Sitting Category:

1 - Josh Dueck (CAN)

2 - Harald Eder (AUT)

Men's Standing Category:

On 1 March, the last event of the World Championships, the Team competition, saw Germany with Andrea Rothfuss, Martin Braxenthaler and Ralf Frummet winning the gold medal in a total time of 7:20.36 minutes. Austria (Danja Haslacher, Harald Eder and Hubert Mandl) followed in second place, just a few seconds before team Switzerland (Karin Fasel, Thomas Pfyl and Michael Brugger).
