European Wheelchair Basketball Championships Preliminary Round Finishes

Germany, Turkey, Italy and Great Britain all find themselves atop the standings after the preliminary round of the men’s European Wheelchair Basketball Championships in Nazareth, Israel.

Germany finished first in Group A outright after winning four of its five preliminary games, while the Netherlands finished second and Spain, Poland, Sweden and France finished in a four-way tie for third.

In Group B, Turkey, Italy and Great Britain all won four of their five contests to finish in a tie for first, with Turkey winning the tiebreaker.

Israel finished fourth, Belgium fifth and Switzerland sixth.

Germany’s Dirk Passiwan leads all scorers, averaging 34.2 points per game, while the Netherlands’ Koen Jansens is averaging 23.2 baskets per contest and Turkey’s Ozgur Gurbulak is netting 21.0 points per game. Samir Bader of Belgium leads all rebounders, grabbing an average of 12.0 boards per contest.

All the quarter-final playoff games will be played on Thursday (15 September) as follows:

Sweden vs. Switzerland, 10:00 (IDT)

Belgium vs. France, 10:00 (IDT)

Netherlands vs. Great Britain, 12:15 (IDT)

Turkey vs. Poland, 14:30 (IDT)

Italy vs. Spain, 16:45 (IDT)
