Final goalball rankings for 2016 published

The final International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) goalball rankings for 2016 have been published, with Brazil leading both the men’s and women’s lists.

There have been no changes from the previous month in the men’s top 10 teams, with the Rio 2016 hosts being followed by Paralympic champions Lithuania, China, Turkey, USA, Ukraine, Sweden, Finland, Iran and Slovenia.

Further down the list, Australia climbed from 39th to 34th, whilst Nicaragua (25-36), Guatemala (30-41), Panama (36-46), Rwanda (46-56) and Ghana (49-57) have all fallen some places.

In the women’s rankings, Thailand dropped from 10th to 21st, with the new top 10 being made up by Brazil, Paralympic silver medallists China, Rio 2016 champions Turkey, USA, Japan, Russia, Canada, Israel, Germany and Australia.

Men’s standings. 1. Brazil; 2. Lithuania; 3. Iran; 4. China; 5. Turkey; 6. USA; 7. Sweden; 8. Finland; 9. Canada; 10. Czech Republic.

Women’s standings. 1. Brazil; 2. China; 3. Turkey; 4. USA; 5. Japan; 6. Russia; 7. Canada; 8. Australia; 9. Israel; 10. Germany.
