Four Countries Advance to Women’s European Championship Semi-finals

Germany, France, Great Britain and the Netherlands all advanced to the semi-finals at the women’s European Wheelchair Basketball Championships in Nazareth, Israel.

After coming out of the preliminary round undefeated with six wins under its belt, Germany will now take on France in Friday’s (16 September) first semi-final at 12:15 (IDT). France finished in fourth place in the group after the preliminary round.

In the other semi-final, second-place finisher Great Britain will challenge third-place finisher the Netherlands at 16:45 (IDT) on Friday.

Spain, Turkey and Israel finished fifth, sixth and seventh, respectively, in the group, and will complete the tournament with a three-team round robin consolation playoff.

The Netherlands’ Inge Huitzing leads all scorers, averaging 23.7 points per contest, while Spain’s Victoria Alonso Vilarino is averaging 21.7 points per game so far in the tournament.

Turkey’s Naciye Cakir has been a force under the basket, grabbing 13.8 rebounds per game.
