Fourth European Championships in Standing Ice Hockey in Latvia

01 Apr 2011

The fourth European Championships of the International Standing Amputee Hockey Federation (ISIHF) will be conducted at the Zemgale Ice Arena in Jelgava, Latvia, from 11-14 May 2011.

The tournament hosted by the Latvian Amputee Hockey Association and supported by the Latvian Paralympic Committee and the Latvian Ice Hockey Federation, will bring together the national teams from Finland, Latvia and Russia and the ISIHF World Team. The teams will play against each other to determine the teams to play in the Bronze and in the Gold medal games on 14 May.

Inclusion of the World Team to the list of participants was introduced in 2010 during ISIHF World Championship in Montreal, Canada. The World Team is composed of players from ISIHF National Member Associations, and from countries where Standing Hockey is not yet widely practiced.

New players are invited to join the 2011 ISIHF World Team. Interested National Paralympic Committees, Organizations of the Sports for Athletes with a Disability, and individual players are welcome to communicate with the Organizing Committee of the 2011 European Championships at: matvejevi@hotmail.com

The International Paralympic Committee Governing Board granted the ISIHF the status of "IPC recognized International Federation" in its Governing Board meeting in March 2010. In March 2009, the IPC Governing Board approved a policy for granting status of IPC Recognized International Federations in order to formerly associate with international federations that are not members of the IPC, but have developed sports for athletes with a disability.
