More than 600 athletes from 35 nations are expected to arrive in Liguria, Italy, shortly for the third Global Games, which take place from 26 September to 3 October for athletes with an intellectual disability.

The Games will feature competition in eight different sports: Athletics, Swimming, Table Tennis, Football 5-a-Side, Wheelchair Basketball, Wheelchair Tennis, Rowing and Para-Cycling.

Some athletes will be looking to earn qualification points toward the London 2012 Paralympic Games, where athletes with an intellectual disability will be allowed to compete in Swimming and Table Tennis.

“The event has grown quickly since its inception in 2004, but it is with these, the third Games, that I believe the Global Games will establish themselves as the World’s largest competition for elite athletes with an intellectual disability,” said INSA President Bob Price.
