Tickets for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games will cost under AUD 40 (EUR 27) and include free public transport to and from the venues, organisers have announced.

The ticket request phase will be launched in April and organisers expect to sell 1.5 million tickets.

"Gold Coast 2018 has worked with the industry and partners to deliver a world-class ticketing programme," said 2018 Commonwealth Games chairman Peter Beattie.

"We want passionate fans in every seat, so the ticket prices are inclusive, accessible and affordable to make it easy for everyone to enjoy the Games.

"Gold Coast 2018 is about the future generation and we want as many children as possible to experience the Commonwealth Games."

People with accessibility requirements will find tickets available at all events.

Annastacia Palaszczuk, Premier of Queensland, added: "The Queensland Government is firmly committed to ensuring Gold Coast 2018 is affordable and accessible for everyone.

"That is why adult tickets to high profile events like athletics start from as low as AUD 20 (EUR 13) with half price children’s tickets available from AUD 10 (EUR 7).

"Gold Coast 2018 will be affordable for families and that means more people can share in what is sure to be a terrific experience.

"The action has a strong focus on the Gold Coast but it is important to remember that some events will be hosted in Brisbane, Cairns and Townsville.

"This means the benefits and excitement of the Games are sure to spread far and wide."

Gold Coast 2018 will take place in Queensland, Australia, between 4-15 April, with athletics, lawn bowls, powerlifting, swimming, table tennis, track cycling and triathlon being the seven Para sports contested.

This will be the largest Para sports programme at a Commonwealth Games in history, with 300 athletes competing in 38 medal events, an increase of 45 per cent more athletes and 73 per cent more medals compared to Glasgow 2014.
