The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Anti-Doping Committee met this month in Bonn, Germany, to prepare for the London 2012 Paralympic Games, exchange knowledge with experts in the industry and hear the athletes’ voice.

The committee meets at least once a year to assist with the establishment of policies, guidelines and procedures with the respect to the fight against doping.

In Bonn, the five committee members and Chairperson Dr. Jose Pascual of Spain discussed preparations for London 2012 Games-related testing, both prior to and during the competition.

“The London Paralympic Games are just a couple of months ahead of us. The full test distribution plan for the Games, as well as the overall strategy and operations in co-operation with LOCOG were discussed,” Pasquale said.

They conversed about communication and education, and how to ensure athletes across the world understand compliance within the Anti-Doping Code, as Polish nordic skier Kate Rogowiec represented the athlete voice as a member of the IPC Anti-Doping Committee and Athletes’ Council.

Plans were initiated for event-related outreach programmes, as well as the development of flyers and continued messaging on the IPC’s website.

The group also met with World-Anti Doping Association Legal Director Olivier Niggle to exchange ideas in regards to the first draft of the revised World-Anti Doping Code 2015, which is set to be approved in November 2013 and take effect in January 2015. UK Anti-Doping also provided feedback and shared knowledge with the committee.
