Currently, the Russians are dominating the competition with skiers leading in four out of six Cross-Country categories and the same number in Biathlon categories.

Racing begins on Thursday (22 March) for the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Nordic Skiing World Cup Finals, which are taking place in Voakatti, Finland and run until 1 April.

Currently, the Russians are dominating the competition with skiers leading in four out of six Cross-Country categories and the same number in Biathlon categories.

With three races remaining in Cross-Country (sprint, popular and middle distance), and three in Biathlon (long, short and pursuit), everything is still to play for the individual trophies. The competition also includes a new format, Cross-Country Relay, which does not count toward world cup points.

One of the most closely fought Cross-Country trophies will be the men’s Standing, in which Russia’s Vladimir Kononov has 470 points and his teammate Rushan Minnegulov follows with 412 points.

Just 35 points separate Norway’s Nils-Erik Ulset (385) from Canada’s Mark Arendz (350) in the men’s Biathlon Standing

In the same women’s event, Finland’s Maija Jarvela is just 25 points ahead of Poland’s Kate Rogowiec, who has 400 points.

Russia’s Svetlana Konovalova will have Germany’s Anja Wicker hot on her heals in the women’s Biathlon Sitting. With 305 points, Wicker is just 20 points behind the Russian.
