IPC Nordic World Cup Finals in Norway

From 28 February to 2 March, the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Biathlon and Cross-Country Skiing World Cup Finals took place in Nes, Norway. 12 Mar 2008 By IPC

After a World Cup in Isny (Germany) and Vuokatti (Finland), athletes from 18 National Paralympic Committees participated in Nes fighting for World Cup points and the win of the overall World Cup trophy.

In Biathlon, the Visual Impaired category was dominated by Verena Bentele (Germany) and Vitaliy Lukanyenko (Ukraine) with only podium finishes during the whole season. Ukrainian Oleksandra Kononova and Nils Erik Ulset from Norway won the overall World Cup in the Standing category, while another Ukrainian, Olena Iurkovska, and Irek Zaripov (Russia) had top finishes in the Sitting category winning the World Cup respectively.

Russia also dominated the World Cup point list for Cross-Country Skiing. Tatiana Ilyuchenko (Visual Impaired category), Kirill Mikhaylov (Standing category) and Irek Zaripov (Sitting category) took home the overall World Cup for their country. Frank Hoefle (Germany) won the Visual Impaired category while Oleksandra Kononova from the Ukraine and Belarusian Liudmila Valchok dominated the other classes for the women.
