IPC President meets French President Macron in Paris

International Paralympic Committee (IPC) President Andrew Parsons met French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris to discuss the preparations and the transformational impact of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, which will take place between 28 August and 8 September 2024 14 Jul 2023

International Paralympic Committee (IPC) President Andrew Parsons met French President Emmanuel Macron on Thursday (13 July) at the Élysée Palace in Paris.

For more than one hour the French President and IPC President discussed preparations for the Games and the transformational impact they will have in France and the wider world. 

During the meeting, Parsons welcomed efforts made by the French government to use the Paralympics as a catalyst improve the rights of France’s 12 million persons with disabilities.

The IPC President highlighted the government’s recent policy announcement which prioritises accessibility, education and employment for persons with disabilities and includes a commitment to invest EUR 1.5 billion to improve the accessibility of places of daily life.

The IPC President also stated that the membership status of NPC Russia and NPC Belarus, and the potential impact on Paris 2024, would be discussed at September’s IPC General Assembly in Bahrain.

Joining the meeting alongside the French President and IPC President was Amélie Oudéa-Castéra, Minister of Sport and the Olympic Games; Marie Amélie le Fur, President of the French Paralympic Committee, Tony Estanguet, President of the Paris 2024 Organising Committee; and Michaël Jérémiasz, Chef de Mission of the French Paralympic Team for Paris 2024.
