Iran, China take goalball golds at Asia-Pacific event

On the women’s side, China won gold, beating Paralympic champions Japan, 3-0, in a penalty shoot-out.

Iran’s men’s team stormed to a 14-4 victory over Japan on Sunday (19 November) in the gold-medal game of the IBSA Goalball Asia-Pacific Championships in Beijing, China.

By playing in the finals, both teams guaranteed themselves a spot at next year’s IBSA Goalball World Championships in Espoo, Finland.

In the men’s bronze-medal match in Beijing, the host nation dominated Australia with a 10-1 victory.

On the women’s side, China won gold, beating Paralympic champions Japan, 3-0, in a penalty shoot-out. Both of these teams already qualified for the World Championships as well by finishing in the top two at the London 2012 Paralympic Games. Iran won the women’s bronze medal the day prior.
