“Our goal is to create the best possible conditions so that the athletes can perform at their very best."

The Lima 2019 Pan Am and Parapan Am Games Organising Committee have held a symbolic ceremony to launch the construction process for the Athletes´ Village in the Villa El Salvador district, where it will be located by laying the 'shicra' stones.

The 'shicra' stones were used in ancient times to brace houses for wind and seismic loads.

International Paralympic Committee (IPC) President Andrew Parsons attended the event, as well as Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski, Lima 2019 President Carlos Neuhaus and Pan American Sports Organisation (PASO) President Nevel Ilic.

The Athletes´ Village is expected to have 1,092 apartments distributed among seven buildings.

“Our goal is to create the best possible conditions so that the athletes can perform at their very best,” said Neuhaus.

Kuczynski added: “This Games are historical for Peru. They will consolidate Lima as a cultural, touristic and sporting centre in America. We will not cease to support the Pan American and Parapan American Games.”
