Malmo InterCup to be Final Goalball Tuneup

Sweden, host nation of the tournament, will be a dark horse to watch after finishing with a bronze medal at the European championships.

The three-day Goalball Malmo Men’s InterCup is scheduled to begin on Friday (27 July) in Malmo, Sweden, drawing 11 of the world’s top teams together for the final major international competition before the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

 

Seven of the teams competing in Malmo will be in London, including world champions Lithuania and European champions Finland, as well as world No. 3 Iran and Paralympic host nation Great Britain.

 

Sweden, host nation of the tournament, will be a dark horse to watch after finishing with a bronze medal at the European championships.

 

Canada, Denmark, Belgium, Japan and the Czech Republic will round out the field.

 

The tournament will be held at Kulladals Sportshall and broadcast live on www.malmocrew.se.

 

At the Paralympics, the Goalball competition will take place from 30 August – 7 September, as 12 men’s and 10 women’s teams will compete for medals at the Copper Box in the Olympic Park.
