At the event, the Japanese capital took the opportunity to promote awareness and knowledge about the Paralympic Movement and Paralympic Sport in its community over the day, with additional publicity for the upcoming Tokyo 2009 Asian Youth Para Games (taking place from 11-13 September). Supporting the big event were the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, Tokyo 2016 Bid Committee and the Tokyo Sports Association for the Disabled.

Taking place at the Yoyogi National Gymnasium at the Olympic Plaza, several Paralympic sporting events were demonstrated by Paralympians including Long Jump and Wheelchair Basketball, both of which were also part of the International Paralympic Day (IPD) 2009 in Berlin last month. The Paralympic Day in Tokyo was also designed for all visitors to participate in various sports, including Goalball and Wheelchair Basketball. In addition, information about the sports was provided to supplement the day’s programme.

Paralympians present at the big event included Atsushi Yamamoto and Mami Sato (both Long Jump).
