Para athletes to host guests in their accessible Airbnb homes during Paris 2024

Worldwide Olympic and Paralympic Partner Airbnb has announced that Para athletes Sofyane Mehiaoui and Axel Alletru will host their homes with accessibility features during the Paris 2024 Games.

The athletes will open their homes for unique overnight stays, providing guests with accessibility needs the opportunity to fully experience the Games. 

Alletru, a 12-time Para swimming national champion, will host an overnight stay for two guests in his home in Lille Metropole on 10 August. Guests will also receive tickets to watch the Olympic men’s handball final at Pierre Mauroy Stadium with their host. Alletru, a former motocross athlete, was paralysed following a serious crash during the 2010 World Championship, before he started competing in Para swimming.

French wheelchair basketball star Mehiaoui, who is aiming to compete at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, will open his Paris home to two guests on 7 September. Mehiaoui will accompany the guests to the final of the women’s wheelchair basketball tournament at Bercy Arena on 8 September.

Highlighting Airbnb’s commitment to inclusive travel, the athletes’ homes will be featured in the company’s Adapted Category, which includes more than 1,100 listings worldwide. Each listing also includes a detailed plan of the accommodation to help guests understand the layout of the homes and determine whether it is suitable for their specific needs.

Accessible stays during Paris 2024

This initiative supports Airbnb’s commitment to expand the number of homes with accessible features before Paris 2024, promoting accessibility and inclusion ahead of the Paralympic and Olympic Games.

Airbnb also launched a series of initiatives to assist new hosts who can offer accessibility features to potential guests, including the creation of new educational content, the organisation of regular webinars, and one-to-one guidance and tools.
