One of Canada’s greatest Paralympic athletes Lana Spreeman recently died after a 16-month battle with brain cancer. She was 61.

Spreeman was a 13-time Paralympic Games medallist in Para alpine skiing, including a gold medal in the giant slalom in Geilo in 1980. She competed at five Paralympic Winter Games - 1980, 1984, 1988, 1992 and 1994. She also raced three times in IRONMAN Canada events.

After her Paralympic sports career, she enjoyed success as a businesswoman operating two massage therapy clinics.

She leaves behind one son, two grandchildren and three brothers.

The Canadian Paralympic Committee sends its heartfelt condolences to Lana’s family, friends and community. The Canadian Paralympic Committee is honoured that the family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Paralympic Foundation of Canada. For more information, visit here.
