Preparatory Workshop on IPC Observers' Programme

A preparatory workshop on the IPC Observers’ Programme for the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games was concluded successfully in Beijing, China on 26 June. Representatives from the Organizing Committees of all future Paralympic Games (Vancouver 2010, London 2012 and Sochi 2014), all Candidate Cities for the Paralympic Games of 2016 (Chicago, Madrid, Rio and Tokyo) and Guangzhou Asian Para-Games 2010 took part in the workshop. 27 Jun 2008 By IPC

“The workshop was a key step towards a successful organization of the Observers Programme”

The two-day workshop started with a venue tour to various Paralympic competition venues and the Paralympic Village. A series of roundtable sessions followed in which topics such as the philosophy, the content, the detailed schedule and the logistics of the Programme were discussed. In addition, an innovative online registration tool was presented, that will enable participating organizations enhanced efficiency and flexibility in organizing their observers’ activities.

“The workshop was a key step towards a successful organization of the Observers Programme”, said Apostolos Rigas, IPC Head of Paralympic Games Strategic Projects. “It allowed us to provide detailed information and guidelines but also get valuable feedback. In Beijing, IPC is putting together for the first time a full scale Observers’ Programme which includes more than 30 activities such as visits to all competition and all major non-competition venues”, added Mr. Rigas.

The Observers’ Programme is an integral part of IPC’s Transfer of Knowledge Programme, which further includes seminars, knowledge workshops, Games’ management guidelines and other initiatives.
