President Kim steps down at PyeongChang 2018

“PyeongChang 2018 is at a turning point for the latter half of its Games preparation, which requires more detailed planning and execution.”

President Jin-sun Kim of the PyeongChang Organising Committee for the 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (POCOG) announced his resignation Monday (21 July) during an executive staff meeting held at POCOG’s Seoul Office.

In his speech to the employees of POCOG, President Kim said: “PyeongChang 2018 is at a turning point for the latter half of its Games preparation, which requires more detailed planning and execution.”

He added, “At this critical juncture, I believe that PyeongChang 2018 needs new leadership and a stronger system that will effectively carry out various Games-related projects. And this is why I have decided to resign as President of POCOG.”

President Kim also asked for continued support of all stakeholders and the media in preparing for a successful 2018 Games in PyeongChang.

The PyeongChang 2018 Paralympic Winter Games will take place between 9-18 March 2018.
