Project Review Sees Commitment From Guangzhou

Taking place on 22 January, the Project Review focused on venue planning, transportation planning and IT solutions for the Guangzhou 2010 Asian Para Games in the presence of a delegation from the Asian Paralympic Committee (APC) led by Malini Rajasegaran, APC Secretary General. IPC Head of Paralympic Games Strategic Projects Apostolos Rigas was also in attendance, as well as a group of experts from the IPC and APC on accessibility, sport and IT.

During the three day period of roundtable meetings, site visits and inspections, the APC delegation was able to review plans for the majority of the competition venues, Athletes’ Village and other sites of interest. Additionally, the delegation was briefed about transportation plans and inspected the vehicles to be used for the event, with a parallel meeting taking place on results, timing and scoring.

Said Mr. Rigas: “We were able to have good understanding of current planning and provide valuable advice. There is genuine commitment from the Guangzhou Asian Para Games Organizing Committee (GAPGOC) and Guangzhou authorities to address the few issues identified. I truly believe that the 1st Asian Para Games will be a benchmark event, fostering the development of Paralympic Sport in the whole region”.
