The Canadian Paralympic Committee (CPC) announced that the registration process for the 2017 Paralympic Schools Week, to be held nation-wide from 24-28 April, is now open.

This is an annual event which celebrates Para sports and the Paralympic Movement and promotes a healthy, active lifestyle for all Canadians.

Teachers are invited to register their class, access free online resources, take part in various activities and enter to win prizes, including the chance to have a Paralympic athlete visit their school.

To register, please visit paralympic.ca/schoolsweek.

“Sharing the excitement of the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, Paralympic Schools Week is an excellent way to bring the celebration into the classroom and gym,” said CPC CEO Karen O’Neill.

“With the variety of free Paralympic resources we have available online, there is something for everyone. We invite all schools to take advantage of these materials to increase engagement and awareness among all students of the importance of inclusion, accessibility and physical activity for all.”

Canada’s Minister of Sport and Persons with Disabilities Carla Qualtrough added: “Sport can be an incredible tool to create more active individuals and a greater sense of social inclusiveness for all members of a community, regardless of their background or ability.

“I am proud of the Canadian Paralympic Committee’s leadership on Paralympic Schools Week and I encourage students, teachers and parents to get involved—especially during the year-long nationwide celebration of the 150th anniversary of Canada’s Confederation.”
