Sharing Knowledge Helps Future Games

Throughout the Rio 2007 Parapan American Games, representatives from future organizing committees participated in the Parapan American Games Knowledge Sharing Programmme. 18 Aug 2007 By IPC

Organized by the Rio 2007 Organizing Committee (CO-RIO) and offered for the first time, this kind of programme allows a systematic transfer of knowledge and experience to facilitate the organization of future Pan and Parapan American Games.

Representatives from Guadalajara, Bogota and Chicago, all interested in hosting either future Pan American Games or Paralympic Games, visited competition venues as well as the Parapan Village and met with CO-RIO staff to benefit from their expertise in specific areas.

By experiencing Games-time operations and keeping a record of the processes, operational modes and policies, the programme will support the organization of future Games.

In addition to this visit, representatives from 2011's Pan American Games host Guadalajara, Dr. Carlos Andrade and Carlos Hermosillas as well as IPC CEO Xavier Gonzalez and APC President Andrew Parsons signed an agreement outlining that the Parapan American Games in 2011 will again be held in conjunction with the Pan American Games. The Mexican National Commission of Sport (CONADE) also confirmed its support for hosting the Parapan American Games in 2011.
