Slovak Alpine Skiers Strong in Pitztal

The first IPC Alpine Skiing event of the winter season is currently taking place in Pitztal, Austria, showcasing strong performances especially from athletes of Slovakia. A total of 103 athletes took part in the Giant Slalom, which was an IPC Alpine Skiing Level Race.

Henrieta Frakasova from Slovakia took first place in the Women’s Visually Impaired category with a time of 1:10.97. She was followed by Russian Mayya Simanova and Croatian Nikolina Santek on second and third place respectively.

Iveta Chlebakova (SVK) won the Women’s Standing category followed by her compatriot Petra Smarzova. Inga Medvedeva (RUS) finished third in this category.

The Women’s Sitting category was won by Delphine Le Sausse from France in 1:20.24. Linnea Ottoson Eide took second place and Anita Fuhrer (SUI) came in third.

Athletes from Slovakia took the first three places in the Men’s Visually Impaired category. Radomir Dudas won in a time of 1:02.98, followed by Jakub Krako and Norbert Holik.

Paralympic champion Martin Braxenthaler (GER) took home his first victory of the season in the Men’s Sitting category leaving behind Britain’s Sean Rose and Korean Sang Min Han.

Braxenthaler’s compatriot Gerd Schoenfelder won the Men’s Standing category in 1:03.80. Alexandr Alyabyev (RUS) and Martin France (SVK) followed on second and third place respectively.

The IPC Alpine Skiing European Cup race of today has been cancelled due to bad weather conditions. More races will follow tomorrow and Sunday.
