More than 160,000 volunteer applications have already been received by the organising committee, which has already selected about 80 per cent of its volunteers.

There is now less than one month left until applications close for those wishing to volunteer at the Sochi 2014 Paralympic Winter Games.

Those wishing to apply, ages 18-80, have until 1 March at http://vol.sochi2014.com/en/.

More than 160,000 volunteer applications have already been received by the organising committee, which has already selected about 80 per cent of its volunteers.

During the 2012-13 winter season, 5,000 of them will acquire volunteer experience at the Sochi 2014 test events, having the chance to take part in a Games-time environment throughout more than 50,000 shifts.

An estimated 25,000 volunteers will be involved during the Sochi Games in more than 20 areas of activities, ranging from meeting delegations at the airport to helping organise the Closing Ceremony.

Approximately 3,000 volunteers trained in the city of Sochi will help visitors find their way between the venues and provide a warm and hospitable welcome.

In total, volunteers are going to account for more than 30 per cent of the total staff at the Games.
