South Africa looks to be well on its way to earning the sole qualification spot to the London 2012 Paralympic Games after winning its first two games at the men’s African Wheelchair Basketball Championships in Rabat, Morocco.

Four teams – South Africa, Nigeria, Morocco and Egypt – are battling for one spot at London 2012, and after beating Egypt and Morocco in the last two days, South Africa remains the only undefeated team left and is already assured a spot in Thursday’s finals.

The South Africans won a thriller against Egypt, 63-62, on Monday, and then had a convincing 68-56 win over host Morocco on Tuesday.

South Africa was the only team from the continent to qualify for the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games.

On Wednesday, Nigeria will try to dethrone South Africa and Egypt will challenge Morocco for the other place in the finals. The gold and bronze-medal contests will take place Thursday.
