South Africa Wheelchair Basketball Earns London 2012 Spot

With an 83-54 win over Morocco in the finals on Thursday (13 October), South Africa won the men’s African Wheelchair Basketball Championships in Rabat, Morocco, earning the continent’s sole qualification spot for the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

After preparing for the Championships with tours to Europe and Australia to challenge some of the world’s top teams, South Africa went undefeated this week in the tournament.

Nigeria and Egypt also participated in this year’s Championships.

South Africa also represented the continent at the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games, where it won just one of its five contests.
