    Sports Come Together for Annual Meeting

    From 19 to 21 October, the annual International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Sports Council Meeting was held in Bad Honnef, Germany.

    Representatives from 22 of the 25 sports affiliated to the IPC came together for a series of presentations, working groups and activities.

    During the sessions, several topics were addressed, including the future direction and role of the IPC Sports Council, the IPC 2007 General Assembly, updates on the the IPC Sport Governance and Management Initiative, the IPC Classification Code and the IPC Anti-Doping Programme as well as sport issues related to youth and athletes with high support needs. In working groups, the participants also discussed the sports calendar co-ordination, youth programme initiatives and sport development.

    Representatives from the Beijing 2008 Organizing Committee (BOCOG), the Vancouver 2010 Organizing Committee (VANOC) and the London 2012 Organizing Committee (London 2012) also were onsite to conduct formal presentations to the Council and hold side meetings to address planning for upcoming Paralympic Games. Representatives from the International Cycling Union (UCI), the International Archery Federation (FITA) as well as from the IPC Athletes With High Support Needs Committee, the IPC Athletes’, Regions and IOSD Council attended the meetings.
