Successful Chef de Mission Seminar in Guangzhou

The Guangzhou 2010 Asian Para Games Organizing Committee (GAPGOC) has successfully finished hosting a two-day Chefs de Mission Seminar for the 2010 Asian Para Games in Guangzhou, China.

Taking place from 28-29 May, President of the Asian Paralympic Committee (APC) and International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Governing Board Member Dato' Zainal Abu Zarin said during the seminar that the Chinese organizers for the Asian Para Games have done a great job in preparations and that everyone is looking forward to the results in December. Chef de Mission attendees also agreed with Mr. Abu Zarin that the event will strongly promote the development of sport and create new opportunities for athletes with a disability across China and Asia.

As part of the Chefs de Mission Seminar, attending delegates visited the Asian Games Town and Guangyao Gymnasium in the Guangzhou Higher Education Mega Centre. Representatives from the IPC in Guangzhou included Chief Executive Officer Xavier Gonzalez, Medical and Scientific Director Dr. Peter Van de Vliet and Executive Office Senior Manager Jing Liu.

The 2010 Asian Para Games will take place from 12-19 December 2010 and will feature 17 Paralympic sports (Archery, Athletics, Boccia, Cycling, Football 5-a-Side, Football 7-a-Side, Goalball, Judo, Powerlifting, Rowing, Shooting, Swimming, Table Tennis, Volleyball (Sitting), Wheelchair Basketball, Wheelchair Fencing and Wheelchair Tennis), with two non-Paralympic sports (Badminton and Bowling).

Guangzhou will host both the 16th Asian Games and the 2010 Asian Para Games, marking the first time that the two Games will be held in one city.
