Tokyo to Host Second Asian Youth Para Games

The Asian Paralympic Committee (APC) recently announced that the return of the Asian Youth Para Games would take place next year from 8 to 15 September 2009 in Tokyo, Japan. 15 Jun 2008 By IPC

President of the APC, Dato’ Zainal Abu Zarin, was very excited about the decision and praised the city’s co-operation: “Tokyo has shown that it is fully involved in providing the best competition conditions for young athletes.”

The Tokyo 2009 Asian Youth Para Games Organizing Committee consists of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government (TMG), Japan Paralympic Committee (JPC), and the Tokyo Sports Association for the Disabled. The APC has commended the continued preparation with various TMG officials and the JPC for the Asian Youth Para Games next year.

Around 500 youth athletes (14-19 years old) with a disability from 40 APC member nations will compete next year in five different sports including Athletics, Boccia, Goalball, Swimming and Table Tennis. Wheelchair Tennis will also be included as an exhibition sport.
