With very little para-sport to talk about, awards winners and elections dominated much of this week’s news from around the Paralympic Movement.

New Asian Paralympic Committee President elected

Majed Rashed, the Vice President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) National Paralympic Committee, is the new President of the Asian Paralympic Committee.

He was elected on the final day of the APC General Assembly at the Yas Viceroy Hotel in Abu Dhabi, UAE, on Wednesday (3 December.

Mizuno and Rajesh Tomar, President of the Indian Paralympic Committee, were elected Vice Presidents.

Leading para-athletes talk about technology to mark UN day

To mark the United Nations (UN) International Day of Persons with Disabilities on Wednesday 3 December, which this year had the theme “Sustainable Development: The Promise of Technology”, the IPC spoke to three leading para-athletes for their views on how technology affects their lives.

Asian Paralympic Committee award winners announced

Iran’s Sareh Javanmardidodmani and China’s Lin Furong were two of the winners at the Asian Paralympic Committee awards held in Abu Dhabi, UAE, on Tuesday (2 December).

For 2014, new award categories were introduced, inspired by the exceptional achievements of the athletes and contingents at October’s Asian Para Games in Incheon, South Korea.

Nominees wanted for Women’s Day award

The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has launched its annual call for nominations for the 2015 International Women’s Day Recognition.

Stakeholders from within the Paralympic Movement are being asked to nominate someone who they think embodies the spirit of the Paralympics and who inspires women within it.

ITU World Para-triathlon events for 2015 revealed

The International Triathlon Union (ITU) has confirmed several dates on the 2015 para-triathlon calendar with events set to feature on every continent in the preparation for para-triathlon’s debut in the 2016 Paralympic Games.

Final Paralympian magazine of 2014 published

The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) published the final edition of The Paralympian magazine for the year online on Friday 5 December.

This edition includes a feature on the growth of Paralympic Sport in Ukraine, details of the IPC’s 25th anniversary, a round-up of a busy summer of sport, and a look ahead to the future of the Paralympic Movement.
