United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) Chief of Youth and Sport Section Alexander Schischlik visited Tehran to meet with the Islamic Republic of Iran National Paralympic Committee (NPC Iran) officials.

Schischlik became familiar with NPC Iran’s activities and emphasized on the responsibilities UNESCO has for the development of sports for all. He also highlighted the importance in making sports accessible for all and empowering athletes with impairment.

He was given a comprehensive report including the history and the development of Para sports in Iran. It was also decided that UNESCO representative in Tehran can start cooperating more closely with NPC Iran in the future.

Iran finished in the 15th place in the medal standings at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games with 24 medals (eight golds, nine silvers and seven bronze).
