With the help of 26 points by Desiree Miller, Team USA defeated Australia, 66-39, on Thursday (21 July) evening in the gold-medal game of the Women’s U25 Wheelchair Basketball Championships in Ontario, Canada, finishing the tournament with a perfect 6-0 record.

Thanks to some solid defensive play, the Americans found themselves up by 22 points by halftime, and while Amber Merritt and Bridie Kean had strong second halves for Australia, they were not enough to overcome the early deficit.

The USA has been a powerhouse in the last decade in women’s Wheelchair Basketball, winning the gold at both the Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games.

Meanwhile, in the bronze-medal contest, Great Britain defeated Canada, 62-42, as Helen Freeman and Amy Conroy combined for 51 points, both posting four double-doubles in the tournament overall.
